Veneers in New Jersey | NÜVA Smile
Dental veneers are thin, custom shells that bond to the front of your teeth to improve their color, shape, size, and alignment. At NÜVA Smile, our cosmetic dentists offer several types of dental veneers — porcelain, composite, no-prep, and removable Snap-On Smile® — at offices throughout New Jersey. Whether you want a complete smile makeover or a quick fix for one or two teeth, there is a veneer option to match your goals, timeline, and budget.
This page is your guide to dental veneers as a whole: what they are, the different types we offer, how to choose the right one, what veneers cost, and how they compare to alternatives. If you already know you want porcelain specifically, visit our dedicated porcelain veneers page. Otherwise, read on — and when you’re ready, request a free consultation or call the office nearest you.
What Are Dental Veneers?
A dental veneer is a custom-made covering for the visible front surface of a tooth. Veneers are made from materials such as porcelain, composite resin, or ultra-thin ceramic, and a cosmetic dentist bonds them to your natural enamel. Because one veneer can change a tooth’s color, shape, length, and position at the same time, veneers are among the most versatile treatments in cosmetic dentistry.
Dental veneers correct many cosmetic concerns at once. Veneers conceal stains that whitening cannot lift, rebuild chipped or worn edges, close small gaps between teeth, and reshape teeth that look uneven, undersized, or slightly crooked. A coordinated set — usually across the six to ten teeth that show when you smile — can completely redesign your smile while keeping your natural teeth in place.
Veneers are a cosmetic enhancement, not a tooth replacement. A veneer depends on a healthy tooth beneath it, which is why our dentists confirm your teeth and gums are healthy before recommending treatment. When a tooth is cracked, decayed, or structurally weak, a dental crown is usually the better choice.
Types of Veneers We Offer
Porcelain Veneers
Made of medical-grade ceramic. Porcelain veneers resist staining, mimic natural enamel beautifully, and typically last 10–15 years or more. Custom-fabricated in a dental laboratory over two visits — the gold standard for a long-lasting, natural-looking smile. See our porcelain veneers page →
Composite Veneers
Composite veneers are made of tooth-colored composite resin — the same family of material used in dental bonding. Composite veneers are sculpted onto the tooth chairside in a single visit, cost less than porcelain, and are often repairable if they chip. Composite veneers usually last 5 to 7 years. They're a great budget-friendly or faster option.
No-Prep (Minimal-Prep) Veneers
Ultra-thin ceramic shells that require little to no enamel removal. Preserve the most natural tooth structure and are sometimes reversible — ideal for patients who want a conservative approach. They suit teeth that aren't too dark or crowded.
Snap-On Smile®
Snap-On Smile® is a removable veneer-style appliance that clips over your existing teeth with no enamel removal at all. Snap-On Smile is non-permanent, takes no drilling, and offers an affordable way to test-drive a new smile or improve your look temporarily. It's the most reversible option we offer.
How the Types Compare
| Veneer Type | Material | Typical Lifespan | Enamel Removal | Reversible |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Porcelain | Medical-grade ceramic | 10–15+ years | Minimal | No |
| Composite | Composite resin | 5–7 years | Minimal | No |
| No-prep / Ultra-thin | Ultra-thin ceramic | 10–20 years | Little to none | Sometimes |
| Snap-On Smile® | Dental resin (removable) | Several years | None | Yes |
How to Choose the Right Veneer for Your Smile
The best veneer for you depends on your priorities. Use these questions to guide the conversation with your cosmetic dentist:
- Want the most lifelike, longest-lasting result? Porcelain veneers are the premium choice for durability and natural appearance.
- Working within a tighter budget or want it done in one visit? Composite veneers deliver a strong improvement for less.
- Want to preserve as much natural tooth as possible? No-prep veneers remove little to no enamel.
- Not ready for a permanent commitment? Snap-On Smile is removable and requires no drilling.
- Only fixing a small chip or gap on one tooth? Composite bonding may be all you need.
There is no single “best” veneer — only the best fit for your teeth, goals, and budget. During your free consultation, our dentist evaluates your enamel, bite, and smile goals, then recommends the material and number of veneers that make the most sense for you. Veneers are also a core part of a smile makeover, where we combine them with teeth whitening or gum reshaping for a full transformation.
What Dental Veneers Can Fix
Veneers address a wide range of cosmetic concerns, often several at once. You may benefit from dental veneers if you have:
- Deep stains or discoloration that whitening can't remove
- Chipped, cracked, or worn tooth edges
- Small gaps or spaces between front teeth
- Teeth that are uneven, undersized, or slightly crooked
- A smile that looks short or aged from years of wear
- A desire for a long-lasting cosmetic upgrade without braces or surgery
Are You a Candidate for Veneers?
Most adults with healthy teeth and gums are candidates for some type of veneer. A good candidate has healthy gums, enough natural enamel to support bonding, and realistic expectations. Because we offer multiple veneer types, many patients who aren’t ideal for one option are great candidates for another — for example, a patient who wants to avoid enamel removal may choose no-prep veneers or Snap-On Smile.
Some concerns should be handled first. Active tooth decay, gum disease, or a significant bite problem are treated before veneers are placed. Patients who grind their teeth (bruxism) can still get veneers but may need a nightguard to protect them. If a tooth is structurally weak or badly damaged, our dentist may recommend a crown, dental bonding, or clear aligners instead. A free consultation is the only way to know for sure.
The Veneer Process: What to Expect
While each veneer type has its own steps, most follow a similar path.
Free Consultation & Smile Design
Your dentist examines your teeth and gums, discusses your goals, and helps you choose a veneer type. You'll review cost and financing up front.
A new smile is never far: we have multiple locations in New Jersey and neighboring states.
Preparation (If Needed)
Porcelain and composite veneers require a thin layer of enamel to be removed so they sit flush. No-prep veneers and Snap-On Smile require little or none. Local anesthesia keeps you comfortable.
Impressions or Digital Scan
For lab-made veneers, we take a precise impression or digital scan and send it to a trusted dental lab. Temporaries keep you smiling in the meantime.
Placement.
Composite veneers are shaped and bonded chairside in one visit. Porcelain and no-prep veneers are bonded at a second visit; Snap-On Smile simply clips into place.
Follow-up and care.
A short check confirms the fit and bite. With good hygiene and regular checkups, your veneers stay beautiful for years.
Veneers vs. Other Cosmetic Options
Veneers vs. dental bonding
Bonding applies composite resin directly to a tooth to fix a small chip or gap — the most affordable, fastest option, but not as durable or stain-resistant as porcelain. Veneers are better for treating several teeth or a full smile.
Veneers vs. teeth whitening
Whitening only changes color and can't fix shape, chips, or gaps. Veneers change color and shape. Many patients whiten their natural teeth first, then add veneers to match.
Veneers vs. dental crowns
A veneer covers only the front of a tooth and is mainly cosmetic; a crown covers the entire tooth and is restorative, used when a tooth is cracked, decayed, or weak. Our dentists will recommend the option that protects your long-term oral health while giving you the look you want.
| Treatment | Best For | Tooth Structure Removed |
|---|---|---|
| Dental Bonding | One small chip or gap | Minimal |
| Teeth Whitening | Color only | None |
| Veneers | Color, shape, gaps, multiple teeth | Minimal to none |
| Dental Crowns | Damaged or weak teeth | Substantial |
Our dentists will recommend the option that protects your long-term oral health while giving you the look you want.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Veneers
Have questions about veneers? Find answers below, or request a free consultation and ask our dentists directly.
NÜVA Smile offers porcelain veneers, composite veneers, no-prep (ultra-thin) veneers, and removable Snap-On Smile®. Porcelain is the most durable and natural-looking; composite is more affordable and done in one visit; no-prep preserves the most enamel; and Snap-On Smile is removable with no drilling. Your dentist helps you choose the best fit.
Choose porcelain if you want the most lifelike, stain-resistant, longest-lasting result and don’t mind two visits and a higher cost. Choose composite if you want a faster, more budget-friendly option that can be completed in one visit and repaired if it chips. Your cosmetic dentist will recommend the best match for your goals.
Dental bonding applies composite resin directly to a tooth to fix a small chip or gap — the most affordable, fastest cosmetic option. Veneers are full shells that cover the front of the tooth and are better for treating multiple teeth or redesigning a whole smile. Bonding suits minor touch-ups; veneers suit bigger transformations.
Yes. No-prep veneers are ultra-thin ceramic shells that require little to no enamel removal and are sometimes reversible. Snap-On Smile® is a fully removable appliance that clips over your teeth with no drilling at all — a great choice if you’re not ready for a permanent commitment.
It depends on the type. Porcelain and composite veneers require a thin layer of enamel to be removed so they sit flush; no-prep veneers need little to none; and Snap-On Smile requires no enamel removal. Your dentist will explain exactly what your chosen option involves.
Porcelain veneers typically last 10–15 years or more, no-prep veneers can last 10–20 years, composite veneers usually last 5–7 years, and Snap-On Smile lasts several years with care. Good hygiene, regular checkups, and avoiding habits like chewing ice all extend the life of any veneer.
Veneers can mask minor crowding, rotation, or unevenness, giving the appearance of straighter teeth without orthodontics. For more significant misalignment, our dentists may recommend clear aligners first or instead. A consultation determines what’s right for your bite.
It depends on the type. Porcelain and composite veneers are considered permanent because a small amount of enamel is removed. No-prep veneers are sometimes reversible, and Snap-On Smile is fully removable. If reversibility matters to you, tell your dentist at your consultation.
Because veneers are an elective cosmetic procedure, dental insurance usually does not cover them. However, we can often bill insurance toward related restorative work, and our financing options make veneers affordable with monthly payments.
Yes. NÜVA Smile offers financing through CareCredit, Alphaeon, Proceed Finance, and Sunbit, plus in-house financing in select cases. Our NÜVA Solutions Membership Club also helps uninsured patients save. We’ll review every payment option at your consultation.
Anywhere from one tooth to a full smile. Some patients fix a single chipped tooth, while a smile makeover often uses six to ten veneers across the teeth that show when you smile. Your dentist recommends the number that creates a balanced, natural result.
Choose whitening if your only concern is color and your teeth are otherwise healthy and well-shaped. Choose veneers if you also want to fix chips, gaps, or shape, or if deep stains don’t respond to whitening. Many patients whiten first, then add veneers to match the brighter shade.
Care for veneers like natural teeth: brush twice a day, floss daily, and keep regular dental checkups. Avoid biting hard objects, and ask about a nightguard if you grind your teeth. Composite veneers benefit from limiting staining foods and drinks.
